Department of Computer Science

History

The Department of Computer Science was started in the year 2007. The Department offers B.Sc. (Computer Science) and BCA from 2007, M.Sc. (Computer Science) from 2011, M.Phil. programme from 2013.Now the department consis 15 qualified and experienced staff members.

Today’s global IT field is competing and dynamic nature, to become a successful person a computer science student should have the realistic programme capabilities. The department focuses at harvesting excellence in computer education and provide wide platform for young graduates to equip themselves through class room teaching, seminars workshops and skill development, and get shaped to face the innovative and dynamic global competition and get a best job or to become a successful entrepreneur in their future.

The department faculties are encouraged to attend FDP programmes organized by ICT Academy of India and publish papers in the National and International Journals and books.The students are allowed to take participate in intercollegiate competitions and technical symposiums, in order to explore their technical skills.The students are doing there internship programme to work with real time industry experience.

The students of Computer Science expediently use the department library shelved with very recent books in many fields of computer science and its applications. The department has been using new strategies for advanced learning such as instructional strategy, additional assignment of responsibility, providing access to professional learning careers. The curriculum is updated according to the changing environment in industry, business world, and computer science and applications through board of studies by Board of Study members of Periyar University.

Vision

To create the most propitious environment for quality academic and research oriented undergraduate and postgraduate education in Computer Science and prepare the young rural students for a globalized technological society and orient them towards serving the society.

Mission

• To provide a strong theoretical and practical background across the Computer Science discipline with an emphasis on software development.
• To empower the youth in rural communities with computer education.
• To inculcate professional behaviour, ethical values, innovative research capabilities and leadership abilities.
• To convey the skills necessary to continue education to grow professional.

Objectives

Special Features

• The Department has produced University Rank and many of the candidates with Distinction. The Department is also offering Research Programme in full time from 2012 onwards.
• So far out of 46 M.Phil Registrations 41 Students have been awarded the degree from the University.
• Today’s global IT Field is compete and dynamic nature, to become a successful person a computer science student should have the realistic programme capabilities.
• The Department holds one doctorate and one SET qualified faculty among 12 faculty members with average experience of 10 years.
• Our faculty members attended many FDP programmes organized by ICT ACADAMY of India and published national and international journals.
• Our students are allowed to complete in intercollegiate competitions and technical symposiums to explore their technical skills.
• Students of M.Sc. (CS) work on companies by undergoing projects. M.Phil Research scholars done their Research works in various domains through our College research cell. To get excellence in their Research work scholars get open forum to attend the workshop. 

Highlights 

Admission

• The committee efficiently and effectively identifies and enrolls rural and diverse students prepared to meet the academic challenges and opportunities of the nation.

Bridge course

• Bridge courses can be considered as supplementary knowledge that can be provided to student to impart basic knowledge in them about the advanced subjects that will be taught to them in the upcoming future.

Laboratory

• The temporary lab with 20 computers in the residence building was replaced by a full-fledged computer lab with 100 computers in the new building.
• The systems are enhanced with network connection. An IBM server with BSNL Broad Band connection is a boon to the staff and students.

Industrial Visit and Educational Tour

• Industrial visits are an eye opener for students who are either studying management or a job specific course.
• The objective behind such visits is to lessen the gab between classroom lessons and practical working environment.

Bosco Employability skills and training (BEST)

• Skills training is to gain the knowledge and ability necessary to fulfill the specific requirements of their job positions.

Internship and Placement

• The companies, from various places, came to recruit our students. About 150 students were selected and received their call letters on the same day.
• The students are doing there internship programme to work with real time industry experience.
